Welcome to the post-InfoComm 2019 issue of rAVe ED! This was a VERY hard issue to edit as we have way, way, way more coverage (and new products) than is represented in this issue, below. But, we had to edit it down to make it “sendable” to you via email. So, do NOT assume this was everything ED-related launched at InfoComm. Instead, take a look at what we’ve posted here below and then, head over to our InfoComm 2019 Show Microsite and read, watch or listen to our coverage — we have all three: 1,635+ videos (yes, our videographers shot over 1,600 videos in three days), 300+ new product news stories and blogs, 2,000+ photos from the show floor and nearly 100 podcasts. So, you can literally, read it, watch it or listen to it.

As a starter, the very first story posted below is my “The Themes of InfoComm 2019” column. In it, I discuss the major trends, applications and technologies that shaped InfoComm 2019 and the nearly 1000 manufactures who exhibited. I think you’ll find it an easy read with and a decent review of the show, overall. I look forward to your feedback!

Finally, right before InfoComm, I was the Opening Keynote speaker at the 2019 UBTech Conference — the AV industry’s only higher-ed focused tech show. And, many of you asked how you can watch my keynote. Well, click here, fill out UBTech’s registration form and, voila, it will be streamed directly to your computer, tablet or phone! You may recall the top was designing classrooms with a people-first approach — rather than focusing on products or technology. I am told that the reviews, on-site, were the highest of any session at UBTech. Oh, we also sent a videographer to every booth at the UBTech show and shot almost 100 videos there. They’re all here.

As always, reach out to me if you have ANY questions, concerns or comments and, in the meantime, enjoy this post-InfoComm edition of rAVe ED.

COLUMNS

+ The Themes of InfoComm 2019 [Gary Kayye]

Over the years I’ve been in this industry (this was my 33rd InfoComm — 34th annual show with InfoComm/AVIXA), the show has evolved from a technology-based show to a product-based show and, more recently, it’s become an applications-based show. Never was that more apparent than at InfoComm 2019. Here are other themes I thought dominated the show.

+ AV Industry EOL: Planned Obsolescence (Part One) [Anthony Coppedge]

For all of the massive technology improvements and innovations within the AV industry, there is irony in the faster obsolescence of digital equipment compared to the analog age of AV, leaving customers vulnerable to unexpected end-of-life notifications of planned obsolescence at the discretion of the manufacturer and reducing the life-span of digital AV gear.

+ The Corporate Campus [Mark Coxon]

Innovative companies think of their buildings and properties as an investment but they don't rate the ROI based only on profits generated from their real estate assets over their cost. This particular executive saw real estate as an asset that should be used for five key purposes.

+ Gary Kayye's Favorite InfoComm Booth Tours — and His LinkedIn LIVE Show Floor Tour, Too! [Gary Kayye]

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE doing booth tours at trade shows. And, I try to do as many of them as possible at trade shows. I enjoy understanding the design and “flow” of the booth — and, a lot of manufacturers are now theming booths pretty creatively. But, MOST OF ALL, I love seeing all the products. I am, and will also ways be, a tech-nerd!
