Polycom Goes Mobile

Polycom_on_iOS-0212Polycom will extend its videoconferencing service to the iPhone 4S and devices that run on Google’s Android 4.0. This service expansion comes after last October’s launch of its RealPresence Mobile that extended its video collaboration services to mobile devices such as iPads, Galaxy tablets and Xoom tablets.

Polycom hopes the move will help it compete better against Cisco, which already launched an application to bring its WebEx two-way videoconferencing service to iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod Touch and iPad 2.

The rising dependence on mobile devices by businesses and employees mandates the move to more wireless videoconferencing services, according to Surendra Arora, Polycom’s VP of product management and business development.

Polycom has about 400,000 business and other enterprise customers for its portfolio of unified communications products and services. The mobile app should help boost usage by existing customers and help attract new companies to the service.
