PPDS, also known as Philips Professional Displays, announced that its 50-inch Philips Signage 3650 EcoDesign has become the first digital signage display to receive EPEAT Climate+ Gold certification. Additional models in the Philips Signage 3000 Series EcoDesign lineup are expected to follow.

The Philips Signage 3000 Series EcoDesign represents PPDS’ first digital signage offering developed under its EcoDesign methodology, which focuses on sustainable manufacturing processes, materials, packaging, and energy-efficient software. The 4K display delivers high-impact visuals while consuming 50% less energy than comparable premium models. The 50-inch version has already received an E energy label rating, while the 55-inch and 65-inch models are rated D and C, respectively. The series initially earned EPEAT Climate+ Silver certification before being upgraded to Gold.

Founded in 2006, EPEAT (Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool) is the leading eco-label for electronics, measuring products’ social and environmental impact from raw material extraction to end-of-life disposal. Operated by the Global Electronics Council (GEC), a non-profit focused on sustainable electronics, EPEAT evaluates products based on:

  • Climate impact: Reducing greenhouse gas emissions in manufacturing and product use
  • Circularity: Designing for recyclability and responsible packaging, water, and waste management
  • Chemical safety: Eliminating toxic materials hazardous to human health and the environment
  • Responsible supply chains: Ensuring fair labor practices and worker safety in electronics production

PPDS has positioned itself as a leader in sustainable AV solutions, integrating eco-conscious packaging, energy-efficient technology, and recyclability into its product designs. The Philips Signage 3000 EcoDesign series meets the highest sustainability criteria in the industry, with 55-inch and 65-inch models set to follow the 50-inch version in earning EPEAT Climate+ Gold certification.

Bart Wouters, international product manager at PPDS, emphasized the company’s focus on sustainability from product design through manufacturing and installation. “With the Philips Signage 3000 EcoDesign Series, we achieved a major industry milestone in gaining EPEAT Climate+ Silver. But we continued pushing for more. Now, this groundbreaking product has earned EPEAT Climate+ Gold.”

PPDS continues refining its sustainability efforts, reducing plastic waste in packaging by using 90% recycled and 100% recyclable materials. The company has also eliminated paper manuals and replaced polystyrene with cushioning made from 100% recycled carton, ensuring the same level of product protection.

The Philips Signage 3000 Series EcoDesign is part of PPDS’ Android SoC family, allowing manual or remote device management via third-party software or PPDS’ Philips Wave ecosystem.

Andrea Barbuti, global product management lead for EMEA at PPDS, stated, “Our product sustainability efforts don’t stop at launch. We continuously track product life cycles and explore ways to enhance energy efficiency. As new innovations emerge, we incorporate them into existing and new models. We are immensely proud that the Philips Signage 3650 EcoDesign has been recognized with EPEAT Climate+ Gold certification.”
