Sound Devices Releases Astral v8.20 Firmware with Major Feature Upgrades

Sound Devices has released Astral v8.20, a firmware update for its Astral Wireless product line that introduces multiple system improvements, new tools for RF professionals and enhancements to the Astral web app.

The Astral Wireless ecosystem is an all-in-one RF toolkit built to address every aspect of wireless operations in location sound, live sound and fixed installations. With the v8.20 update, users gain more control, expanded coverage and improved workflow efficiency across devices.

Key New Features in Astral v8.20

Multiple Astral Outpost Network Support – ARX16 and ARX32 units can now connect to up to eight outputs, providing seamless command and control of transmitters across extended NexLink coverage areas.

Over-the-Air Firmware Updates – Users can now wirelessly update Astral transmitter firmware directly from the system interface.

Frequency Exclusion Regions – Allows users to exclude specific frequency ranges from AutoAssign or manual frequency assignment, reducing interference risk.

TV Channel Finder – Algorithm automatically detects and displays 6, 7 or 8 MHz TV channels to simplify frequency planning and avoid occupied bands.

Whip Antenna Length Tool – Displays a real-size graphic to help users determine the optimal whip antenna length for any frequency range.

Web App Enhancements – Expanded usability improvements for RTSA and Receiver Channel Views, improving visibility and workflow efficiency.
