Visional Installs New Lighting System at Adelson Educational Campus

Adleson Education Campus – 1 scaled 1With a growing performing arts department, and an engaged community, The Adelson Educational Campus in Las Vegas, Nevada turned to Visional for improvements to their performing Arts Center.
The Adelson School is the only PK-12 Jewish community school in Nevada. Inclusive and open to all, the Adelson School is a place where students feel truly embraced. The project scope consisted of a complete lighting system upgrade, a new audio control package with more than two dozen microphones, new rigging upgrades, and a replacement of stage curtains and drapery to bring a fresh look to the stage.

One of the most exciting parts of the installation for the school was new moving light fixtures at all front-of-house positions, to bring flexibility to their stage, without having to use a lift every time they wanted to change color or position of their catwalk-position fixtures. Not having an actual catwalk was problematic and didn’t allow for a safe way to frequently change lighting plots from the front. Additionally, with the extensive inventory issues throughout the marketplace, the challenges were mounting. Russell Brown of Freed Sales assisted with the project in sourcing gear that was readily available. Speaking to these issues, he stated that “Based on the quantity required, the performance distance, and the various features desired, the ADJ Focus Spot 5Z was the best option for the hard-to-reach front-of-house positions that don’t have accessible catwalks.”

A handful of other fixtures including zoomable LED PAR’s and 7-color ellipsoidals were included in the project, as well as a large quantity of the Altman SpectraCyc’s. The entire system is controlled by a wireless DMX system and an ETC Eos control console.

Another challenge the performing arts department at Adelson Educational Campus had for the Visional team was to develop a new audio system that had twice the microphone capabilities of the existing system. Dustin Pensell and the team at Airwave Technologies provided a customized design package of various microphone form factors, giving the venue the flexibility, it needed to accommodate the variety of performances that occur over a given period.

With a mix of 16 Titanium single-ear headsets and half a dozen handheld microphones on Airwave’s 4000 Series receivers, combined with overhead ceiling condenser microphones, the system more than doubled in size from its original design. More importantly, the new system also allowed for more consistency in operation, as well as providing better hands-on experience for students learning audio engineering. The rest of the audio system included a Soundcraft LX7 console, along with amplifiers and a new equipment rack, fully outfitted to meet the diverse needs of the facility.

In addition to the electrical technology used on the project, Visional also designed and installed a new drapery package with custom curtains fabricated by Rose Brand and track systems by ADC. The new colors of the stage curtains more aligned with the school’s brand image, and fresh cyclorama and projection surfaces helped renew the stage for the multiple uses it provides for both the school and community.
Performing Arts Chair David Philippus added that, “Not only does this elevate and expand opportunities for learning in the theatre world, but performances will also benefit from proper amplification and lighting as will audience enjoyment.”

The mission of The Dr. Miriam and Sheldon G. Adelson Educational Campus is to instruct and inspire new generations of students who will draw strength from a rich Jewish heritage, and use their knowledge, values, and vision to fulfill their own potential and build a better world. With new technology for the performing arts center and a partnership with Visional, this commitment to excellence and education will continue to prepare students with culturally enriched growth and techn
