Sony Electronics Introduces mocopi Pro Kit: A Full-Body Motion Capture for Pros
Sony Electronics has introduced the mocopi Pro Kit, a motion capture system designed for professionals in industries such as animation, gaming, virtual reality (VR), and live-streaming. The mocopi Pro Kit combines advanced hardware and software to deliver precise, full-body motion capture with a streamlined workflow.
The system includes 12 lightweight sensors that capture movements from the head, hip, wrists, ankles, arms, thighs, and either hands or feet. The sensors connect via Bluetooth® LE or a direct PC connection using the sensor data receiver for mocopi. This setup ensures compatibility with demanding professional workflows.
The mocopi Pro Kit is part of Sony’s new Extended Reality (XR) solutions brand, XYN, which was announced on January 6. The XYN brand aims to support 3DCG and spatial content production, making mocopi an attractive option for professional XR creators and users of platforms like VRChat.
- Features of the mocopi Pro Kit: Professional Mode with 12-Sensor Precision
The expanded sensor setup captures nuanced movements with exceptional accuracy, ideal for animation, VR, and live-action projects. - Direct PC Connection: The sensor data receiver for mocopi allows direct PC integration with both 6-sensor and 12-sensor setups, optimizing production workflows.
- Enhanced Accuracy with Camera Integration: The system combines external camera inputs with sensor data to improve positional accuracy and minimize tracking errors.
- Offline Grounding Refinement: Available with XYN Motion Studio, this feature eliminates common issues like sliding and floating by refining foot placement during post-processing.
- Software Integration: The system integrates with the mocopi PC App and XYN Motion Studio App, providing tools for real-time and offline motion capture workflows.
Software Highlights
The XYN Motion Studio App is divided into two core functions:
- Motion Capture: Enables full-body motion tracking compatible with platforms like Maya, Unreal Engine, and VRChat.
- Motion Editor: Allows creators to refine and export motion data in formats such as BVH and FBX, widely used in digital content creation.
The app supports wired (USB) and wireless (Bluetooth or IP) connectivity, customizable settings like frame rates and background changes, and features a searchable database of preset motion files. Users can also upload custom motion files and store them securely in the cloud.
Pricing and Availability
The mocopi Pro Kit will be available for pre-order in late March 2025. The complete hardware bundle has a suggested retail price of $1,180. Individual components can also be purchased:
- Sensor Data Receiver (PC Dongle): Approximately $110 each
- Additional Bands: Approximately $60 per set
- XYN Motion Studio subscription: $8.99/month
Sony plans to release software updates throughout 2025 to expand the system’s functionality further.
With the mocopi Pro Kit and the XYN ecosystem, Sony continues to deliver innovative tools that empower XR creators to achieve professional results efficiently and accurately.
