We’re just back from ISE 2019 in Amsterdam, the biggest AV trade show in the world, where we shot more than 1,500 product videos, took over 1,000 photos, wrote hundreds of stories and recorded 49 podcast interviews on-site. Thousands of new products were introduced there, many of which are detailed below, and will be in our next issue this month. If you didn’t get a chance to attend yourself, check out our coverage — it’s really the next best thing to being there in person. You can see it all on our ISE 2019 MicroSite here.

+ 2019: The Year of AV-Over-IP — But Don’t Believe the Hype! [Gary Kayye]

There’s no doubt in my mind that 2019 will be the year we look back on that the industry transitioned from signal routing and distribution via HDMI and so-called "digital-media" to AV-over-IP. Certainly not the entire industry — just most of it. But buyer, specifier, installer and designer beware. Not all AV-over-IP is the same, not all AV-over-IP is interoperable and not all AV-over-IP is will work with routing everything.

+ ROI in Higher Education [Scott Tiner]

With this knowledge of closures and mergers, smart leaders are thinking about budgets, and what provides value. Many IT and AV organizations have budgets that are being hit by this closer look. Let’s face it, in both equipment and people, we spend a lot of money. This means that we need to begin to pay attention to what we are doing and how it is providing value. This may mean giving serious thought into what we install, and being honest with ourselves and our administration.
