Here is a brief intro about him.
Blesson Roy started with the AV industry from mid 2014 and is working as an applications engineer in CSD.

Please drop your questions in the comments below and i will make sure that he sees them.

1.Describe your journey in the AV industry? How did it start?

I started work in Control Systems Design and Development as a application engineer. Got trained in AMX, Crestron and Extron Controller programming and GUI Design. So far the journey hasn’t been too bad. There were times when i felt this may not be a stable career option as it is a small market but then got a different perspective on how the AV industry works and felt more at ease.

2.What do you think is the challenges that are facing a new person who wants to join the industry

a) Trained in programming AMX and Crestron controllers.(takes time)
b) it’s got onsite work which may not be something most engineers are looking at.
c) Its good for people who love working with audio and video related techs.

3.What are the positives of working in this industry

Small market and so there’s always a dearth of people skilled in AV related tech.
Hence there’s a high demand.
People with minimal programming experience can also work with controllers not requiring high end programming.

4.What in your opinion would you change in the industry? What are the negatives that are prevalent ?

I don’t know as yet what i would change.
Negatives:
1) Clients are rude or in too much of a hurry to get stuff done.
2) Site conditions may not always be the best to work in.
5.Describe your ideal client? What do you wish clients to know before hiring you.

Ideal Client would be one who gives time and space to get things done. Clients should know that I’m a guy who’ll give them an excellent work but only if i’m not hurried. Give me space and time to do things perfectly and the end result will be great.

6.If you were going to start over, what would you do differently ?

No idea. Haven’t thought about it.

7.Describe a typical work day for you. What are your daily disciplines?

Come to office.
Check the mail.
If anything is assigned do it.
Else check with the TM and get some work to do.

8.Describe the apps and gear that you use daily which makes you more productive?

No gear although if you want to give me one I’ll never refuse it.
I do use an app called “Any.DO”.
It helps me make a list of stuff and categorize them according to how i want them to be done.
