ANAHEIM, CA, January 29, 2024  — WSDG (Walters-Storyk Design Group) was recognized for Outstanding Technical Achievement at the 2024 NAMM TEC Awards in the Studio Design Project category for the design of Rue Boyer, the flagship Paris recording studio owned and operated by Mix with the Masters. Presented by The NAMM Foundation, The NAMM TEC Awards are bestowed annually in celebration of the pro audio community by recognizing the individuals, companies, and technical innovations behind today’s sound recordings, live performances, films, television, video games, and other media. This marks the thirteenth time WSDG has been recognized by the TEC awards in this category.

“We are grateful to accept this award for our work designing Rue Boyer – a truly multidisciplinary effort for our organization that resulted in a dazzling and unique recording studio,” said WSDG Founding Partner John Storyk. “We are humbled to once again be recognized by our peers and partners in the industry at the TEC Awards. It was a great honor to collaborate with Mix with the Masters on this project and continue to refine the processes and techniques we’ve developed to further the art and craft of recording studio design.”

“Every artist and producer loves the vibe, look, and  feel of the studios,” said Mix with the Masters Co-Founder Maxime Le Guild. “It was a challenge to achieve a beautiful design while creating an extremely reliable sonic space — John Storyk and the WSDG team did an incredible job!”

About Rue Boyer
Rue Boyer is a destination studio for world-class artists, and has been designed to the highest standards of acoustic, technical, and ergonomic excellence. In addition to operating as a working studio, Rue Boyer also serves as a central production hub for Mix with the Master’s educational workshops and prodigious video content creation division. Early clients have included Grammy-winning producers, engineers, and artists including Jack Antonoff, Taylor Swift and Pharrell Williams.

Studio A is 48m2 / 517 SF and serves as the primary teaching area and control room. In its control room configuration, the studio seats up to twenty attendees with excellent listening positions anywhere within the control room and is also set up for Dolby Atmos production and video projection. The main stereo monitoring for the control room is Symphonic Acoustics Dual 15V monitors with custom-designed 18” subwoofers.

Both control rooms were acoustically optimized using REDIacoustics’ NIROTM predictive acoustic analysis tool. The resulting design implementation resulted in multiple subwoofers as well as a complex array of treatments, all positioned to create an extraordinarily flat modal response and tonal balance. Making this happen with the confines of a tight space as well as a very special and distinctive esthetic vision was a challenge that was accepted and met.

Studio A can also be converted into a live room by way of a custom-designed motorized platform that can lower the studio’s vintage 48-channel E-Series SSL 4000 console into a vault beneath the floor. Even this cavity was utilized to create targeted low frequency management

Studio B is 19.5m2 / 204 SF and is designed to serve as a video editing suite as well as an alternate control room for Studio A when in live room configuration. One of the challenges in Studio B was the limited ceiling height given by the existing levels above. To achieve a superb sonic quality, a combination of porous and membrane absorbers was used at the ceiling and the upper wall areas. Both studios share access to a 15mdrum room, a pair of ISO booths, and Rue Boyer’s glass-lined lounge.
