Fifteen Vivitek projectors were used to bring an immersive cultural exhibition, Pompei Continuum, to life in a campaign supporting Pompeii’s bid to become Italy’s Capital of Culture for 2026. The temporary exhibition, which ran from December 2024 through January 2025, attracted more than 20,000 visitors and celebrated the art, history and cultural legacy of the ancient city.

Vivitek partnered with PlayArtMultimedia, an Italian AV integrator known for large-scale artistic installations, to deliver the projection mapping. The project used a total of 15 Vivitek large-venue laser projectors: eight DU9900Z units, one DU9057Z, three DU9800Z models and three DU8395Z systems. These were selected for their high brightness, image clarity and energy efficiency.

Throughout the exhibition, three full town squares were illuminated with projections showcasing ecclesiastical artworks, paintings and sketches designed specifically for the show. The content was surface-mapped onto historic structures to create an immersive and visually arresting visitor experience.

The DU9000 Series projectors are built for high-performance large-venue use, featuring single-chip DLP laser technology, seamless integration and powerful brightness. The DU8395Z projectors offered additional flexibility for the exhibit’s complex projection needs, delivering up to 15,000 lumens and supporting picture-in-picture functionality.

PlayArtMultimedia also praised the ease of Vivitek’s lens installation. The team used a variety of lens types — from wide-angle (0.8–1.2) to long-throw (4.0–7.0) — to adapt to different projection distances, noting that Vivitek’s lenses were lighter and easier to mount than competitors’.

The exhibition marked a fusion of technology and cultural storytelling, using projection to highlight Pompeii’s enduring relevance as a candidate for cultural recognition.
