Sony Introduces Compact Commercial 4K Projector

Sony-VPL-GT100-4K-professional-projector-1112Sony introduced this week a new compact 4K projector. The VPL-GT100 model offers the same ultra high 4K resolution (4096×2160) of its larger counterparts used in movie theaters and commercial applications, with a new form factor for easier installation in simulation, industrial design, scientific visualization, 4K content viewing, entertainment and a range of government uses, including command and control.

The VPL-GT100 projector is based on the same SXRD 4K design as its home theater counterpart, model VPL-VW1000ES. Weighing in at 44 pounds and 1.5 ounces, the VPL-GT100 smaller design is achieved through the combination of an optical engine that uses a small format, 0.74-inch SXRD panel and a highly integrated circuit.

It can show content at 4K/60p, offers 2,000 lumens of color light output and has a specified dynamic contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1. It has two DisplayPort inputs. The VPL-GT100 also offers a wider-than-normal color space to project the full color information provided by the professional DCI color specification and the Adobe RGB color space. It can be installed in portrait or landscape mode.

Sony says the VPL-GT100 is expected to be available in January 2013.

It isn’t on Sony’s website yet, but when it is, it will be here.
