Shelly Begins Shipping Z-Wave Long Range Smart Home Devices
Shelly Group has announced the availability of its new Z-Wave Long Range (ZWLR) product line, with nine devices now shipping. The ZWLR protocol is designed for extended wireless coverage, offering up to 1.5 miles of range in ideal conditions and support for up to 4,000 devices on a single network. It is also backward-compatible with existing Z-Wave products.
The new devices are aimed at users with large properties, buildings with thick walls, or other challenging environments where traditional wireless signals struggle to reach. ZWLR’s low-traffic frequency and low power consumption enable reliable performance for lighting, sensors, relays, and more — without the need for repeaters, trenching or extra cabling.
With this launch, Shelly now supports every major smart home protocol:
- Wi-Fi for high-speed cloud automation
- Bluetooth for ultra-local tasks like presence sensing
- Zigbee and Matter for ecosystem interoperability
- ZWLR for long-range, power-efficient communication
The following ZWLR devices are currently shipping: Shelly Wave Plug, Wave 1, Wave 1PM, Wave 2PM, Wave 1 Mini, Wave 1PM Mini, Wave PM Mini, Wave H&T and Wave Motion.
Additional products — such as the Wave i4 series and Wave Pro relays — are expected to be released later this year.
Shelly ZWLR devices can be paired with ZWLR-capable controllers such as Home Assistant (version 2025.5 or later with an 800-series USB stick), Hubitat Elevation C-8 / C-8 Pro, or the HomeSeer HomeTroller G8 for full long-range operation.
