SAVANT Wi-Fi Universal Remote Control Now Shipping
Savant Systems is now shipping its new Wi-Fi-based Savant Universal Remote (SUR-0500), originally unveiled at CEDIA Expo 2013. The $399 controls distributed audio, lighting, climate control and other features within a home or small commercial setting. Savant claims that the new Universal Remote is self-configuring once connected to the network. The Savant Universal Remote supports a menu of screens for controlling services throughout the home or workplace, and because it utilizes Wi-Fi connectivity, users can control devices without pointing or aiming — no direct line of sight is required.
The Savant Universal Remote features a 1.7-inch color display and back-lit buttons and features a customizable color display with hard buttons for macro-functions. The Savant Universal Remote is capable of two-way Wi-Fi communication as well as these features:

- Thirty-five assignable/programmable buttons with common navigation and transport buttons
- Intuitive layout of keypad buttons for commonly used functions
