5 Reasons to Spec Modern Atomics’ Reaktor for Your Next HomeAV Installation

THIS IS A PROMOTED POST

MODERN ATOMICS REAKTOR

Modern Atomics is a new(ish) company on the block founded by three AV veterans: Paul Bryson, Tim Marshall and Michael Braithwaite. The three came together with a common goal: making your home more energy efficient. This company came, saw and conquered at CEDIA Expo last month, and I want to make sure you know exactly what it has to offer.

Modern Atomics has a few products in its power distribution technology line, but today, I’d like to introduce you to the Reaktor, the company’s advanced power distribution unit (PDU). If you spec motorized shades, you’re going to want to read on.

1. The Reaktor Saves You Money (and Eliminates Power Waste)

The thing is, the smart devices in your home (and the dumb ones) all use power. Many even use power when they are off — including your motorized shades. The electrical current that these shades and other devices generate when they are idling is called quiescent current, which translates into energy consumption, which then translates to your power bill being higher. I’m not giving you a science lesson for the hell of it. Modern Atomics’ Reaktor can power your shades while getting rid of 99.75% of that current. This not only makes your home more energy efficient but actually adds more dollars back into your wallet!

2. The Reaktor Saves You Rack Space

The Reaktor’s design is actually made to save you space, up to 80%, in fact! In large homes where multiple shade systems require multiple PDUs, these space savings are crucial. Even if you’re running out of wall or rack space, this replacement will definitely save you space and simplify your setup in the long run.

3. The Reaktor Eliminates the Need for a Licensed Electrician

You can read that one more time. The Reaktor operates on 24-48V DC power rather than AC power. Translation: You don’t need a licensed electrician to install it. Again, this saves you money and time and opens up even more access for the custom integrator.

4. The Reaktor Offers Easy-to-Configure Automated User Interface Programming

Setup has never been easier. When you connect a new device to the Reaktor, the system can automatically recognize and apply default settings without downloading any software or lifting another finger. Again, the CI doesn’t have to have a laptop or any complicated apps for settings or commands on each device.

Another great feature is that the Reaktor integrates with all the popular control systems you know and love: Somfy, Lutron, SILABS, Bond Bridge Pro and more. Once the system recognizes the devices, it enables seamless control through remotes, apps, etc.

5. Seamless Integration With Upcoming Modern Atomics Products (Dare I Say, Future-Proof?)

If you saw me at CEDIA Expo, chances are I gushed to you about one of my favorite products I saw at the show: the Modern Atomics Collider. While it’s not shipping yet, it will be soon! And it will, of course, work seamlessly with the Reaktor.

As we discussed above, the Collider is a high-power PoE midspan device capable of powering and controlling up to 24 motors (again, without any AC connections) through a single Ethernet cable. Together, these two options will ensure energy efficiency and scalability within any home or space — whether your devices are powered through DC or PoE. See? I wasn’t lying when I said this was a game-changer.
