Bridge Technologies VB440 Tools is an AV Sync Generator That Solves AV Synchronization Issues in Production and Events

Bridge Technologies announced the VB440, a solution designed to ensure seamless, frame-perfect synchronization for live broadcasts distributed across multiple networks from a centralized OB production point. AV synchronization has long been a challenge in digital broadcasting, particularly due to de-embedding and re-embedding in SDI workflows and the separation of audio and video essences in ST 2110 transport. Traditional methods rely on manual cues or packet transport timestamps, both of which lack a content-driven synchronization methodology.

While the VB440 has monitored and regulated packet-related sync issues for years, it now introduces a first-line defense by embedding synchronization data into the content itself. This enables both intuitive manual alignment and UI-driven automatic correction. Additionally, Bridge’s new APIs provide third-party access to this embedded sync data, allowing external platforms to integrate automated synchronization tools in the future.

The VB440’s AV Sync Generator introduces an on-screen rolling shutter with early and late zones, along with a visual and auditory “blink and beep” signal to assist in manual synchronization. The system also supports various color bar types and allows broadcasters to insert logos on the sync screen.

However, its most significant innovation is its ability to visualize synchronization in real time. A built-in sync client in the VB440 displays precise deltas between video and individual audio channels, allowing for rapid correction of sync issues. With support for up to 64 audio channels per stream—including immersive audio and multiple streams—the VB440 offers an unlimited channel resynchronization capability.

Unlike traditional methods that rely on packet-based timestamps, the VB440 embeds machine-readable electronic markers directly into the audio signals, while a client reads synchronization points in the video. This enables real-time detection and correction, ensuring frame-accurate synchronization with minimal intervention.

Content synchronization in broadcast production has historically struggled with inconsistent frame updates and unclear sync error reporting (often presented as numerical values). The VB440 eliminates these inefficiencies by continuously updating and presenting sync metrics visually in real time.

This real-time functionality makes precise AV synchronization accessible for day-to-day productions, eliminating the need for expensive, high-profile broadcast setups. With support for more than 40 resolutions and frame rates, including PSF, the VB440 provides broadcasters worldwide with an adaptable, future-proof synchronization solution.
