The most exciting sectio-n in the entire ISE 2019 Show was absolutely, positively the UCC Hall – Hall 11. It was packed beyond packed. In fact, I will guarantee you that they’ll have two halls for the UCC section in 2020. This is where Polycom, ClearOne, Cisco, Nureva and Logitech were, among others. And, it’s unlikely you’ll find a more popular product at ISE than the Logitech Tap — here’s the video we shot about it at ISE and here’s an interview I did with Logitech Head of Marketing Joan Vandermate explaining its positioning in the UCC market. I suspect every one of you who watched that wants one now. Speaking of Joan, check out her column below on the frustrations of the remote control in videoconferencing.

Oh and the biggest hijacker of the show was a UCC company too: Zoom Video. They were EVERYWHERE — without spending a dime on exhibiting! I counted over 30 booths/stands using Zoom to demo their products — in fact, just prior to the show opening, Nureva announced that its HDL 300 is now a recommended hardware option to a Zoom Room!

My other favorite product from the UCC pavilion was the new ClearOne patented ceiling tile beamforming mic array. The story on it is below and I suspect it will be popular too. So, enjoy this issue of rAVe UCC and please connect with me on LinkedIn — just click on my name below!

+ Can We Finally Throw Away the Dreaded Videoconferencing Remote? [Joan Vandermate]

Videoconferencing technologies have improved tremendously over the past several years. Cloud services have made it possible to cost-effectively scale deployments to thousands of desktops and conference rooms. Improvements in video encoding, compute power and broadband services mean anyone can join a video call, from almost anywhere, via practically any device. And USB conference cams and audio systems allow IT departments to install high-quality room systems in a multitude of spaces unthinkable a few years ago. But one element of the video conferencing experience has stubbornly remained almost unchanged since the 1980s: the remote control.
