Sony has announced the FX2 (model ILME-FX2), the latest addition to its Cinema Line. Positioned as an entry-level option, the FX2 features a 33.0-megapixel, full-frame, back-illuminated Exmor R sensor and is designed for solo operators and small production teams.

The FX2 offers more than 15 stops of dynamic range using S-Log, and features Dual Base ISO settings of 800 and 4000. ISO sensitivity can be expanded up to 102,400 for low-light shooting. The camera records internally in 10-bit 4:2:2 All-Intra and supports formats such as XAVC S-I DCI 4K at 24p.

Sony says the FX2 can record continuously for up to 13 hours in 4K 60p, thanks to its internal cooling fan and heat dissipation system. Variable frame rate options include up to 60 frames per second in 4K and up to 120 fps in Full HD.

The camera supports Log shooting in Cine EI, Cine EI Quick, and Flexible ISO modes, and allows users to import up to 16 custom LUTs for in-camera monitoring.

Physically, the FX2 shares the same compact form factor as Sony’s FX3 and FX30, with built-in mounting points for cageless rigging and compatibility with an optional top handle. The camera measures approximately 130 x 78 x 104 mm and weighs 679 grams.

Other features include Auto Framing, which tracks and frames subjects automatically, and Framing Stabilizer, which maintains subject positioning during movement.

Connectivity options include an HDMI Type-A terminal for up to 4K 60p 4:2:2 10-bit or 16-bit RAW output, dual-band Wi-Fi, wired LAN via adapter, USB-C for 10Gbps data transfers, and support for streaming and remote production workflows.
