British company Video Window has provided the technology behind the first-ever UK Portal, unveiled in Ipswich’s historic Cornhill area. The installation connects residents and visitors with people in Dublin, Philadelphia, Lublin and Vilnius through continuous, real-time video streams running 24 hours a day.

The Portals project, developed by Portals.org, is a global public art initiative designed to create live, human connections across borders. Each Portal functions as a “window to the world,” and the Ipswich installation marks the U.K.’s debut in the international network.

Video Window’s software powers the live streams that keep the Portals running without interruption. Its technology supports cross-time-zone communication while maintaining privacy, uptime and stability for public environments.

“We’re incredibly proud to see the first UK Portal come to life right here in Ipswich, powered by our U.K.-based technology from Bristol,” said Daryl Hutchings, CEO of Video Window. “This installation is a beautiful demonstration of what Video Window was built for — bringing people together, anywhere, anytime. As a U.K. company, it’s especially meaningful to see our software helping connect communities on a global scale.”

To celebrate the U.K. launch, Video Window is offering discounts for organizations seeking to implement always-on connectivity between sites or offices. Businesses can receive 50% off the first 12 months of any Enterprise annual license or 50% off the first three months of any SME monthly license through Dec. 31, 2025.

The Ipswich Portal forms part of the Digital Ipswich project, funded by the U.K. Government’s Towns Fund, which aims to modernize the town centre with interactive digital experiences that encourage connection and innovation.
