Sennheiser has joined the North American Spectrum Alliance, a project of the North American Broadcasters Association (NABA) that focuses on technical and operational issues affecting broadcasters in Canada, Mexico and the United States. The alliance brings together broadcasters, rightsholders, venues and the entertainment industry to protect critical radio spectrum used for broadcasting, wireless microphones, cameras and production tools—an effort Sennheiser has long supported.

The alliance aims to provide a unified voice for spectrum retention amid ongoing spectrum reallocations and potential UHF auctions. With increasing encroachment from mobile services and unlicensed devices, the group works to safeguard the spectrum vital to content creation and delivery.

“We believe that users of media spectrum in North America need to band together to defend all aspects of spectrum that the industry needs, and wireless audio is an essential part of this effort,” said Rebecca Hanson, director-general of NABA. “We are delighted to welcome Sennheiser … their long-standing global advocacy for radio spectrum and leadership in wireless technologies will significantly strengthen our collective efforts.”

Sennheiser’s spectrum policy head, Dr. Andreas Wilzeck, said the company’s commitment extends beyond technology, emphasizing industry collaboration and regulatory engagement. “Our strategy revolves around forging meaningful alliances across industries, actively participating in standardization efforts and engaging in regulatory discussions,” he said. “This approach allows us to effectively articulate and serve common interests, ultimately driving progress for our customers and the entire audio industry.”

Joe Ciaudelli, Sennheiser’s director of spectrum and innovation in the United States, highlighted the importance of unity in preserving the TV-UHF band while also exploring new frequency options and technologies. “This unified approach is not just important — it’s imperative,” he said. “We cannot afford fragmentation among various interest groups. NABA’s initiative in bringing stakeholders together is commendable, and we’re fully committed to this collaborative journey.”

Radio spectrum plays a critical role in entertainment, news gathering and live events. Wireless technology enables everything from concerts and sports broadcasts to theater performances and exhibitions. As spectrum becomes increasingly scarce, Sennheiser and the North American Spectrum Alliance aim to ensure it remains available for professional use.
