Genelec Loudspeakers Enhance Audio Experience at Lahti Historical Museum
The Lahti Historical Museum has installed Genelec loudspeakers throughout its newly updated exhibition spaces to create a more immersive visitor experience through sound.
Located inside the historic Lahti Manor, the museum collaborated with Finnish systems integrator Atea to install 58 Genelec loudspeakers across six rooms, including 55 compact 4420A models and three 4435A in-ceiling speakers. All use Genelec’s Smart IP technology, allowing for audio, power, and control over a single cable via Power-over-Ethernet (PoE).
“The museum’s curators specifically requested Genelec loudspeakers for this installation,” said Pirkka Kosola, solutions manager at Atea. “As a well-respected Finnish brand, Genelec was the natural choice. In our experience, all Genelec products are easy to install and configure, but for this project, we selected Smart IP models for their networking capabilities and because they come in a variety of colour options, allowing them to blend easily into the museum’s decor.”
The system includes custom UI controls at the museum reception desk, allowing for basic volume adjustments and muting, while the rest of the system operates autonomously. Custom audio tracks created by Finnish creative agency OiOi are distributed evenly throughout the space, designed to support the museum’s storytelling approach.
Genelec’s focus on sustainability — including the use of recycled materials and energy-efficient designs — aligned with the museum’s values. The installation was supported by local partner Torvinen Showtekniikka.
Lahti Historical Museum houses more than 45,000 artifacts and uses multimedia exhibits, including audio, to connect visitors with the region’s history.
