New Blackmagic PYXIS 12K Uses 12K RGBW Sensor to Capture Video at Up to 6048 x 4032 Resolution

Blackmagic Design

Blackmagic Design today announced the Blackmagic PYXIS 12K, a next-generation digital film camera that incorporates a 12K full-frame RGBW sensor into a compact, customizable body. Designed for high-end film and television production, the PYXIS 12K delivers 16 stops of dynamic range, built-in Blackmagic Cloud sync, and dual CFexpress media recorders—all in a rugged CNC-machined aerospace aluminum body.

The PYXIS 12K will be available in July for $4,995 from Blackmagic Design resellers worldwide. Customers can choose between L-Mount, PL, or locking EF lens mounts, offering broad compatibility across lens ecosystems.

The 36 x 24mm sensor captures a native resolution of 12,288 x 8,040 (12K) and allows high-frame-rate recording at up to 112 fps in 4K. Users can shoot open gate at 3:2 or full-height 6:5 anamorphic with no cropping. The multi-scale RGBW sensor allows shooting in 12K, 8K, or 4K at full sensor width, giving creatives maximum flexibility for post-production and delivery.

Other standout features include:

  • Built-in 4-inch HDR 1500-nit LCD screen
  • Blackmagic RAW recording plus simultaneous H.264 proxy files
  • Real-time uploads to Blackmagic Cloud using either 10G Ethernet or mobile tethering
  • Professional connectivity, including 12G-SDI, mini XLR with phantom power, USB-C, and BP-U battery support

The PYXIS also supports modular accessories, including the Blackmagic URSA Cine EVF and Blackmagic PYXIS Monitor, enabling tailored setups for everything from handheld operation to studio production.

This launch continues Blackmagic Design’s mission to democratize high-end digital filmmaking by offering powerful tools with accessible pricing—perfect for indie filmmakers, DPs, and broadcasters looking to future-proof their workflows.
