Absen and Versatile have jointly unveiled what they say is the world’s largest monolithic LED virtual production stage, located at the new Versatile AI Virtual Film Base.

The curved, 270-degree LED screen measures 50 meters in diameter and 12 meters high. The total stage area spans 5,000 square meters, with the LED display covering about 1,700 square meters — roughly equivalent to four basketball courts.

Designed to support large-scale film and television production, the setup enables rapid scene changes using virtual environments and minimal physical sets. When paired with immersive 8K LED walls and adaptive lighting, the system is intended to replicate the realism of on-location shooting while increasing efficiency.

Absen, a longtime partner of Versatile, said it worked closely with the company on the project from early-stage design through installation and calibration. The two teams focused on technical accuracy, including fine pixel pitch, HDR rendering, high refresh rates, color fidelity, and mitigation of moiré and aliasing — challenges commonly encountered in virtual production.

By recreating complex, large-scale scenes in a virtual environment with minimal physical sets, the technology enhances production efficiency and immersion.

The companies said the project marks a milestone not only in scale but in execution. Absen’s contribution included the LED panels, as well as engineering support, color management, and on-site system integration.

Absen’s LED virtual production solutions have been used in projects across the United States, China, the United Kingdom, France, Russia and Canada. Company officials said they plan to expand adoption of the technology globally as more studios seek to reduce costs and improve turnaround times.
