Powersoft’s M28Q Amplifiers Deliver Flawless Audio Nearly Ten Years Later at Macedonia Baptist Church

Macedonia Baptist Church is a vibrant, faith-filled congregation located in Jackson, Georgia. The church’s mission is rooted in togetherness through sharing the gospel, growing in faith and building a community. So when it came time to update the sanctuary’s aging sound system, the leadership team recognized the importance of creating an environment where every message could be clearly heard. To bring that vision to life, they partnered with Sweet & Sound, led by seasoned touring engineer and integrator Christopher Schatz, to redesign the audio system.

“The original setup was a three-speaker center cluster, probably installed years ago just to fill the room,” said Schatz. “But the sanctuary is a wide space – about 100 feet by 112 feet – and it needed better coverage and clarity to truly match the spirit of their worship.”

The transformation was made possible by a generous donation from a nearby church that had recently upgraded its audiovisual system. Their former configuration included a meticulously maintained SLS line array system, powered by Powersoft amplifiers and ASHLY processing. The donation created a rare opportunity to deploy a nearly turnkey, high-fidelity audio solution at a significantly reduced cost.

“This gear was pristine,” Schatz recalled. “When I opened up the racks, it was like the units had just come out of the box. No dust or scratches, and even the original factory tags were still on the gear. The previous church took phenomenal care of everything.”

The project required a complete redesign of the sanctuary’s loudspeaker deployment. Schatz replaced the legacy center cluster with a balanced left-center-right system featuring 12 RLA/2 line array speakers from SLS Loudspeakers and two TH118 subwoofers from Danley Sound Labs, all powered by two Powersoft M28Q four-channel amplifiers and managed by an ASHLY ne8800 digital signal processor.

“I’ve worked with Powersoft before, but not this particular model. The Powersoft M28Qs performed flawlessly,” said Schatz. “All four channels on each amp fired up with perfect continuity. When I tested the outputs to the SLS boxes, I got full fidelity immediately. It was just plug and go.”

For houses of worship like Macedonia Baptist Church, reliable audio is essential to the experience. Every event relies on clarity and intelligibility and any system failure, latency issue or tonal imbalance can disrupt the message and distract the congregation. That’s why Powersoft’s performance, even nearly a decade after its initial deployment, was so impressive.

“It’s a powerhouse amp,” said Schatz. “These units had been in a rack for years, then transported, reinstalled and fired up, and still delivered as if they were brand new. That speaks volumes about Powersoft’s build quality and reliability.”

Schatz praised the seamless integration process, from wiring custom connectors to testing signal paths. He explained, “I had zero issues. There were no errors or surprises. Every channel, every meter and every input was clean, strong and ready to go.”

The final system was installed over two days, with the full band rehearsal occurring the following night, the transformation was undeniable. “The night of the rehearsal was magical,” said Schatz. “The band felt the presence instantly, but the real test was Sunday morning. The congregation was in awe. The room came alive in a way it never had before.”

The continued performance of the Powersoft M28Q at Macedonia Baptist Church nearly ten years after its original deployment showcases the brand’s commitment to long-term reliability, with its flawless audio delivery after years of active use, transport and reinstallation. Powersoft designs its amplifiers to last at least a decade, and that philosophy is rooted in product performance and sustainability. Nearly one-third of an amplifier’s total energy footprint comes from its fabrication alone. When a device fails prematurely, the environmental impact far outweighs any theoretical energy efficiency.

By extending the life of its products, Powersoft reduces waste, minimizes long-term costs and ensures that its amplifiers deliver value well beyond their initial installation. At Macedonia Baptist Church, the M28Q amplifiers continue to serve their purpose with the same strength and clarity as day one.
