26North’s AVI-SPL Buy Hints at What’s Next for Big AV in 2026

26north avi spl acquisition

26North Partners LP, the platform founded by Josh Harris, has officially completed its acquisition of AVI-SPL — the world’s largest AV and UCC integrator, serving more than 86% of Fortune 100 companies.

This was big news when it broke a month or so ago. In fact, the day it was announced, I sat down for a video chat with AVI-SPL’s head, John Settle. You can watch that here:

With more than 4,400 employees across 70-plus offices worldwide, AVI-SPL is a true bellwether for where the AV industry is headed. And they’re so big that the only realistic buyer was a venture capital firm.

That’s why — and this is just my opinion after watching this industry for decades — I think Almo Pro AV could one day take a similar route. I don’t see another AV company large enough to buy them outright. Unless some very unusual strategic partnership came together, the most logical option for DCC Technology, which owns Almo Pro AV now, would be to sell to venture capital.

Not long ago, having a venture capital firm as your parent in the AV market was viewed as a negative. Not anymore. In fact, 26North has provided a pretty solid blueprint for how to acquire well — and how to run a people-first organization. Harris himself is approachable and understands the value of talent.

And talent is exactly what you get with Almo Pro AV. Co-founders Sam Taylor — widely considered the nicest guy in AV — and Warren Chaiken built the company on the foundation of hiring genuinely good people. That culture is still there today, with leaders like Rob Ziv, Brian Rhatigan, Justin Ulrich and Amanda Mecutchen carrying it forward.

But again, this is me connecting the dots — there’s no inside scoop here. The reality is, across AV, we’re seeing companies grow so large that their only buyers will be outside the traditional AV ecosystem. We’ve seen it before with SMART’s acquisition by Foxconn or Diversified’s by Tailwind Capital. (In Diversified’s case, the investment made sense because of their deep involvement in the cloud.)

So yes, I wouldn’t be surprised if 26North was at least keeping an eye on Almo Pro AV. But whoever buys them — whenever that may be — will be getting more than just a profitable business. They’ll be getting some of the very best people in AV.
