HDMI 2.2 Spec Released Including New ULTRA96 Certified Cable
The HDMI Forum announced the release of Version 2.2 of the HDMI Specification. Higher 96Gbps bandwidth and next-gen HDMI Fixed Rate Link (FRL) technology provide optimal audio and video for a wide range of device applications. An end user can be assured that their display supports a native video format in the best way possible and delivers a seamless and reliable experience.
Higher resolutions and refresh rates are supported, including up to 12K at 120 Hz and 16K at 60 Hz. Additionally, more high-quality options are supported, including uncompressed full chroma formats such as 8K at 60 Hz / 4:4:4 and 4K at 240 Hz / 4:4:4 at 10-bit and 12-bit color.
The new Ultra96 HDMI Cable supports up to 96Gbps and all HDMI 2.2 applications. The current Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable remains applicable for system configurations supporting up to 48Gbps maximum bandwidth. Like the previous cable, the Ultra96 is part of the HDMI Cable Certification Program, which requires each model length to be tested, certified, and display a Certification Label.
Also included in the new specification is the Latency Indication Protocol (LIP), which improves audio and video synchronization, especially for multi-hop system configurations such as those with an AV receiver or soundbar.
