THE rAVe Esports Show — Season 2, Episode 6: Building Equitable Esports Spaces
In this episode of THE rAVe Esports Show with Bubba Gaeddert, Kevin Diltz of Extron breaks down what it means to design esports environments that are not just high-tech, but truly inclusive.
Kevin emphasized the difference between equality and equity: equality gives everyone the same tools, but equity ensures everyone has what they need to succeed. In esports, that means removing barriers — physical, financial, and technical — so every student can participate fully.
From ADA-compliant desks and simplified touch panels to customizable audio zones for neurodiverse players, thoughtful AV design can open doors for all participants. Kevin shared real-world examples like Canyon Springs High School’s Cyber Innovation Center, where scalable AV solutions transformed an old shop into a hub for esports, cybersecurity, and community events.
Looking ahead, Kevin sees equity in esports shaped by scalable AV over IP systems, simplified user interfaces, and stronger integration with streaming tools — all helping schools of any size create professional, inclusive spaces. His advice? Start with the students, not the technology. When inclusivity is built in from day one, esports programs become more than arenas — they become spaces where everyone feels welcome.
