Panasonic Projector & Display will again serve as the exclusive projection technology sponsor for the LUMA Projection Arts Festival, billed as the nation’s leading projection mapping celebration. The festival will transform downtown Binghamton, New York, into an outdoor art gallery Sept. 5-6, 2025, featuring both large-scale international works and community projects brought to life with Panasonic’s 4K RQ Series and FRQ60 Series projectors.

The event continues LUMA’s mission to merge technology with storytelling while fostering economic, cultural and educational impact. Alongside international artists, the festival will showcase “Small Works” installations—intimate projection mapping pieces from U.S.-based creators—set in unexpected corners of the city.

The Living Lights Project will invite local high school students and first-time projection mappers to display original works on downtown buildings. Students will also take part in a behind-the-scenes STEM tour led by LUMA’s technical directors to learn more about projection mapping.

“LUMA is more than just an art festival — it’s an economic driver, a cultural anchor and a showcase of how cutting-edge technology can inspire and engage a community,” said Jared M. Kraham, mayor of Binghamton. “Events like LUMA bring visitors, revenue and energy to our city while also creating opportunities for local students and artists.”

Festival organizers rely on Panasonic projection technology to deliver bright, crisp imagery for the large-scale works that define LUMA. Technical directors, many of whom began as festival volunteers, now lead projection mapping efforts and apply their expertise at universities and other organizations across the region.

“Our continued collaboration with LUMA reflects our belief that technology should not only push the boundaries of visual storytelling, but also make it more accessible,” said Taka Uchida, CEO of Panasonic Projector & Display North Americas. “By equipping both world-class artists and first-time creators with our projector technology, we’re proud to help transform an entire city into a canvas for innovation and community pride.”

“Over the past decade, LUMA has helped spark a wave of projection mapping innovation throughout New York, inspiring large-scale displays that bring the community together,” said Tice Lerner, co-founder and creative director of the LUMA Projection Arts Festival. “We’re grateful for our continued partnership with Panasonic to bring these experiences to life.”

The 2025 festival is expected to draw tens of thousands of attendees, with installations spread across Binghamton’s historic buildings and public spaces. Highlights will include interactive works combining live music, AI-generated visuals and sensor-based projections, along with narrative-driven pieces exploring themes of nature, mythology and human connection.

The LUMA Festival follows closely on the heels of Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Show on the Brooklyn Bridge, underscoring how projection mapping technology continues to bring communities together through visual storytelling.
