Magnetar has launched the MKII Series of universal media players, the UDP900MKII and UDP800MKII, designed to support a wide range of physical and digital formats including 4K UHD, Blu-ray, SACD, networked and stored media. The company said the updated players provide reference-level video processing and high-performance audio for premium residential applications.

Both models include an upgraded Magnetar video processing engine with improved color reproduction, contrast, brightness and noise reduction, as well as enhanced upscaling. Audio performance has been improved across the series with a redesigned architecture aimed at cleaner signal delivery and reduced distortion.

Connectivity features include redesigned USB 3.0 ports with isolated power supplies and hub chips to improve device compatibility, as well as a sound-dampened optical drive for quieter disc reads. The units feature an aluminum chassis with dual-layer EMI shielding, upgraded internal wiring with high-purity copper conductors and premium JST/Amphenol PCB connectors.

The flagship UDP900MKII incorporates dual ESS 9038 PRO DACs, TMDS retiming on the HDMI audio port and XMOS USB audio playback supporting formats up to 768 kHz PCM / 512 DSD. The UDP800MKII includes a redesigned two-channel audio system with seven OPA1602 op-amps, jitter correction, EMI shielding and support for Roon Ready certification.

Magnetar said the UDP900MKII will ship in Q4 2025 at $3,299.99, while the UDP800MKII will be priced at $1,799.99.
