Hunter Douglas Adds Matter Support to PowerView Gen 3 Shades
Hunter Douglas has added support for Matter, the smart home connectivity standard, to its PowerView Gen 3 Automation platform, the company announced Tuesday.
The update allows users to control PowerView shades through platforms such as Apple Home and Google Home. Matter support is enabled through a firmware upgrade to the PowerView Gateway or Gateway Pro, which now act as Matter bridges. No additional hardware is required, and all existing PowerView Gen 3 shades are compatible with the update.
Matter, developed by the Connectivity Standards Alliance, is designed to improve interoperability among smart home devices across brands and ecosystems. With the integration, Hunter Douglas shades can now be operated through Matter-enabled apps and controllers.
Hunter Douglas said the update supports all PowerView-compatible shade types, including Top-Down Bottom-Up, Duolite, Pirouette A Deux and Aura Illuminated shades. Voice control is also supported. The company has published a guide to help users configure naming conventions and optimize functionality.
According to the company, the addition makes PowerView the largest portfolio of Matter-compatible window treatments currently available. More than 20 motorized shade styles are supported, spanning a range of fabrics and designs. Select products, such as the Aura Illuminated Shades, expose tunable LED lighting as well as shade control to Matter-based systems.
Hunter Douglas said the Matter integration expands interoperability across smart home platforms and supports a wide range of automated shade configurations.
