RavePro — Volume 19, Issue 21 — June 2, 2021

June 2, 2021 | Volume: 19 | Issue: 21

Hello from New York City, #AVtweeps! I spent the long weekend here with one of my best friends, and I’m already so sad to leave and go back to LaGuardia airport — although I will say the airport is looking much nicer since most of the construction is done!

This week we are talking about on-prem vs. the cloud and how rAVe writer Michael Katz thinks you should utilize the cloud in more applications. We also take a moment to reflect on LAVNCH WEEK 4.0 last week with Leah McCann’s wrap-up (the content is still available by archive!). Finally, we look at how professional audio in AV is looking as a market, particularly in the context of the pandemic.

Also, check out the new collaboration between Sharp NEC and Avery Dennison, Lumens Digital Optics’ entry into the AV-over-IP market and the beginning of our ISE 2021 coverage! (Wrap-ups of our favorite ISE Digital sessions are to come!)

Have a great rest of the week!

— Steph Beckett

COLUMNS

+ The Cloud Versus On-Prem, That Is the Question [Michael Katz]

One of the first marketing/technology terms that I learned when I joined a video managed services company in 2008 — versus previously working at a telecom company — was the difference between a cloud-based service (not a weather system) versus on-prem (aka on-site) hardware products. I currently work for a digital signage company that provides both cloud SaaS (single or multitenancy) and on-prem (as we have clients that use either solution). We even occasionally provide a hybrid, where we combine cloud services and utilize some of the clients’ on-prem equipment.

+ LAVNCH WEEK 4.0: The ProAV Day Roundup [Leah McCann]

Thursday’s LAVNCH WEEK 4.0 experience, ProAV Day, included an impressive set of presenters and products — even following an amazing day one, UCC Day, and day two, Digital Signage Day. Our talented host, rAVe Managing Editor Steph Beckett, introduced the day.

+ Professional Audio in AV — Emerging From a Pandemic [rAVe Team]

The professional audio market has traditionally been an area of long-term growth, driven by macro factors and innovation across a range of vertical and product segments. However, the outbreak of COVID-19 came as an unprecedented shock to the industry, negatively impacting many of the industries which previously provided long-term growth for audio equipment. Significant challenges faced pro audio during 2020, and still many of the same conditions apply this year, however the commencement of vaccine roll-outs and a clearer timescale of recovery are providing greater confidence across the market.
