Looking Glass, a company known for holographic and light field innovation, has introduced a new display technology: the Hololuminescent Display (HLD). The razor-thin displays are designed to transform standard video into lifelike 3D holograms while working with existing digital signage, CMS, and video infrastructure.

Advertisers, marketers and retailers are often challenged by the difficulty of deploying immersive experiences like VR, hologram boxes and holographic fans at scale. These options require specialized content pipelines, take up space and limit the number of people who can experience them. Looking Glass says its HLD addresses these obstacles by enhancing standard content with real depth on a display that’s less than one inch thick, supports up to 4K resolution and offers high brightness.

The displays are powered by Looking Glass’s patented hybrid technology, which builds a holographic volume into an LCD or OLED’s optical stack.

“Looking Glass is in the business of delivering magical holograms that can be deployed anywhere,” said Shawn Frayne, CEO of Looking Glass. “Our new Hololuminescent Displays are designed to command attention in advertising, retail, and live environments. They are powered by a fundamentally new technology that builds on our light field expertise but works seamlessly with standard video, CMS, and existing advertising infrastructure. We also still offer our amazing light field displays for teams who need to review 3D depth, or who are advancing 3D R&D or development.”

Key features of the HLD include:

  • Eye-grabbing visuals: Up to 4K resolution and high brightness for group viewing without eye-tracking, suitable for advertising, retail and character-based content.
  • Standard content workflows: Compatible with Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Unity, Unreal and other common tools.
  • Deployment flexibility: Razor-thin form factor mounts on walls, requires no special software or hardware, and scales easily for use in stores, venues, theme parks or other environments where video screens are common.

Looking Glass said the technology enables content that “leaps off the screen,” such as AI-powered characters and product showcases, making immersive holography accessible at scale.

The Hololuminescent Displays will be available in Q4, starting at $2,000 for a 16-inch model. Additional sizes will include 27-inch and 86-inch options. A limited-time pre-order discount will be available.

Looking Glass will continue to offer its light field displays for teams engaged in 3D development and research.

Based in Brooklyn, N.Y., and Hong Kong, Looking Glass is focused on building new display technology for collaborative 3D visualization and immersive experiences.
