Happy December, #AVtweeps! I hope you are all gearing up for the holidays and are filling your wishlists with all the latest AV equipment. I know that was a reach, but we are ignoring it and moving on because this is the AV Buyers.Club after all, and I’m just trying to be part of your world.
Anyways — we have columns with some food for thought today. Mark Coxon writes about cloud-based interoperability because that’s all anyone has been talking about for months. But he poses the question: why is this JUST NOW happening? Also, you’ve heard about AVaaS… but now it’s time for DSaaS. What’s that, you ask? Digital Signage as a Service, of course! Scott Tiner makes a case for how universities could be utilizing it.
In other news, MXL Microphones released a new bundle made just for livestreaming and gaming. Visix has a new version of its Connect Meeting Room sign. Also, AVIXA has announced its 2020 Board of Directors and Leadership Search Committee, and the fully restored Apollo 11 Mission Control Room at Space Center Houston features Christie projectors.
Videoconferencing seems to be the slowest communication platform to adopt cross-platform compatibility. Sure, in the beginning, when there was barely enough bandwidth to carry video reliably, proprietary ecosystems assured connectivity and transmission. But bandwidth has not been the issue here for quite some time. Can you imagine if the cell phone manufacturers had deployed similar strategies?
I always try to put forward ways that companies can partner with schools to provide value for all parties. As many people know, one area that I have struggled with in this aspect is AVaaS. As I thought more and more about this, however, I have come up with an area that would be perfect in higher education for aaS. That is DSaaS (Digital Signage as a Service).
