It is never too early to talk about ISE, right? The show dominates conversations in Q4 and Q1 every year — we are fresh into Q4 and with that, fresh into product releases, standards updates, education announcements and much more surrounding the annual Integrated Systems Europe event.

Aligned with the scale of the show, ISE is home to arguably to the most education in one location in both the commercial and residential spaces. I am interested in hearing your thoughts about education at ISE — specifically related to the resi space. If you are in the US, is it worth the travel trek? If you are in EMEA, is it worth the scale of the show? If you are elsewhere, what encourages you to go and attend?

There is some big news from Semtech below; as well as product updates from SnapAV, Control4, Bird, Vivitek and Meridian. Also check out the Industry News section for two pieces from CEDIA and some personnel announcements from Origin Acoustics and Klipsch.

Enjoy the issue!

COLUMNS

+ Striving For Leadership Rather Than Management [Lee Distad]

Most of the time it’s essential to have your team focus on what they’re best at. All else being equal and not to get too philosophical about it, salespeople need to sell, designers need to design, and project manager needs to manage. Overlap and covering off is going to happen with small firms, but it should be the exception rather than the rule. And when it does come time for someone to play outside their normal role, I probably should be the boss. Not only are they most qualified to do it (and if they’re not that’s something to work on), but it has a positive impact on the overall work ethic and culture of the company.
