I recently graduated from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Due to the ~recentness~ of my graduation (May 2018), I still receive emails as if I was a student. Information Technology Services (ITS) has started to role out two-step verification for any access to any University-supported account (email, student services, class registration, class portals, etc). This comes not-so-surprisingly as discussed in one of the TECH ROUND-UP features below. But as the need is present, the patience among University affiliates is not-so-surprsingly thinning rapidly.

ICYMI: rAVe [PUBS] is now a part of THE rAVe Agency. Yesterday marked the official launch of the new rAVe — a creative agency built specifically for the audiovisual industry. But don’t worry, rAVe [PUBS] as you know it is not going to change. We will still be the leading AV news publication. We just grew.

And business as usual: Below is an action-packed edition of rAVe ED with a column from Scott Tiner and product news from Barco, BrightSign, Extron, Comprehensive, Lyntec, Matrox, Studio Technologies and others. Happy reading!

COLUMNS

+ Dashboarding Your Success [Scott Tiner]

Two years ago, we had a dedicated team of professionals working at the service desk, but no ability to ever judge if they were meeting the expectations of the college. As anyone who has ever worked in a support role in technology knows, you certainly do not always FEEL as though you are meeting the expectations. We often felt like we did not have enough staff, but how did we prove that? All you could do is show you did not get to a call on time or took too long to solve a problem, but wasn’t that just pointing out how you were not doing your work? So I asked the team — both the help desk and our classroom technology team — to start keeping statistics on everything.
