Summer is almost over (though you wouldn’t know it here in North Carolina); kids are heading back to school, people are returning from vacation and business is picking back up again. Our team recently returned from Australia — we were actually not on vacation — where we attended the trade show held there called Integrate. Although primarily attended by those in the Australia, New Zealand and some of Asia, it’s become a very important show with a lot of exciting product previews and announcements. Among others, Extron previewed its long-awaited AV-over-IP system and there was the first portable native 4K projector shown. See all our coverage online here.
There was also a stir up this month over at a cybersecurity conference, where a hacker activitist (hacktivist, if you will) showed how he was able to hack into an AV system using a Crestron touch panel, ultimately letting him control the network, glean user passwords and even use AV devices to eavesdrop and watch unwitting users. In his column today, Mark Coxon talks about what happened and what needs to be looked out for.
