Whenever I think of digital signage, I think of New York City. How could I not? Sure, Times Square has the most obvious connotation for amazing displays as far as the eye can see. But it’s all about the DOOH and the advertising opportunities that surround you when you’re on the go. Speaking of which, we’ve talked a bit about how we traveled to NYDSW and got to see everything the show had to offer. But for those of you who couldn’t be there, our copywriter, Leah, wrote an awesome (and comprehensive) wrap-up so you won’t have to miss anything! You’re welcome.

In other news, Leyard and Planar are making their final stops for the 2019 Video #Wallapalooza this week. One started yesterday in Boston (continuing today), and the other today in Oakland, California. I know, we’re sad to see it end, too. More information on how to attend is here.

Finally, AVIXA announced the release of the third edition of its CTS Certified Technology Specialist Exam Guide. And we have a present for you — a preview. For free! Stay tuned on what else we’ll be doing to help you prep to become CTS-certified. We have a few tricks up our sleeve. ?

Anyways, if anyone needs me I’ll be binging every Disney movie ever made on the new Disney+ streaming service. If no one hears from me it’s because I never made it through every movie in the Marvel Universe.

Stay cool, #AVtweeps!

COLUMNS

+ rAVe Went to #NYDSW. Here’s What We Saw. [Leah McCann]

From industry panels to CTS certification sessions, NYDSW 2019 offered a diverse range of activities (some free and some paid; some open and some invite-only), including manufacturer showcases, conferences, open houses, breakfast debates, cocktail hours, tours and more. Why did we attend? Because we know that digital signage — whether in retail, wayfinding, the corporate environment, advertising technology (AdTech) or digital out of home — is (and will continue to be) hugely valuable in the overly cluttered and overwhelming world of marketing and advertising.

+ The Effects of 5G on the AV Industry [Tony Sprando]

The arrival of 5G is transforming technology and our AV industry. You can barely scan your News Feed or watch television without some type of news or advertisement about 5G and its impending impact on your life. And while this whole 5G thing sounds like amazing hype, I’ve found that many of our customers and my colleagues aren’t certain of what it is and how it actually will affect their lives and our industry.
