Let’s talk about desire paths for a minute. When it comes to listening to end users, they often speak out for what they want, even if you can’t see it immediately. Just like paths that are formed by a dirt walkway, when you see end users differing from a design’s purpose, maybe we can ask ourselves why. The truth is that desire paths aren’t unique to landscape and wayfinding. They can emerge in all sorts of places, and although they may not manifest a dirt walkway, they express the same thing — a dissent from what was designed.
