Crestron Introduces PinPoint Proximity Detection Beacon at CEDIA EXPO 2014

php5Jk5M8PMDenver, CO, September 11, 2014 – Crestron makes smart homes even more intelligent and personalized with PinPoint proximity detection. The new PinPoint beacon plugs into a standard AC outlet and communicates with nearby mobile devices. With PinPoint, the Crestron App knows what room a person is in and displays controls for that space on their iOS® device. Homeowners no longer have to navigate room menus on the app as they move through their home. The controls for the room they are in are displayed automatically. Crestron is demonstrating the benefits of PinPoint at CEDIA EXPO 2014, booth #150.

“Imagine walking into the great room with your iPad® and the lighting control and audio sources and even volume control are at your fingertips for that room,” said Sean Goldstein, VP of Marketing at Crestron. “Move to the kitchen, and as you do the lighting scenes for the kitchen appear. PinPoint identifies your location and makes your home system smarter.”

PinPoint opens a world of new customization options for smart homes. Integrators can more precisely tailor Crestron system features to best serve individual family members. For instance, when the app is launched and satellite radio is selected, a favorite station can automatically play. Then, the radio can automatically turn on in each room as that person walks throughout the house. The music can literally follow someone from room to room.

Integrating proximity detection into a whole-house automation system is simple and affordable. A low-profile PinPoint beacon plugs into an electrical outlet in each room of the home. The Crestron App determines which room the device is in by measuring signal strength from each PinPoint beacon.
