In all seriousness, I am astounded by the number of Asian me-too LED wall manufacturers at this year’s ISE Show. And, I’m not exaggerating when I tell you there were no fewer than 50 (yes, fifty) manufacturers selling and marketing LED-based video walls.
At first, it was cool to see. There were skinny one’s, amazingly flexible one’s, small one’s, indoor/outdoor one’s and even one built into a curtain that made a huge HD screen. But, after a while, it was tiring hearing how one manufacturers was the “most flexible” or the “brightest” or the “smallest mm-pitch” array on the market.
Hey, InfoComm, want to bring back the Shoot-Out? Here’s your opportunity: an LED wall shootout as the specs all sounded exactly the same.
And, I imagine they might be – the same. Many of the manufacturers heralded from China and Taiwan and it’s certainly possible that there are only a handful of LED wall manufacturers making all of them. But, it’s LED overload – it’s become darn close to a commodity.
I wouldn’t be surprised if you didn’t see LED walls in Best Buy soon!
