The JB Duke Hotel and Conference Center in Durham, North Carolina, has completed major AV upgrades in two classrooms and adjoining breakout spaces, using Extron’s NAV Pro AV over IP platform for signal switching and distribution.

The Glaxo Classroom and the Executive Classroom serve as hybrid learning spaces for Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business and also host events for outside groups. During the renovation, both rooms received new systems designed around Extron NAV encoders, decoders and networked management tools.

“We specified NAV Pro AV over IP based on its flexibility,” said David Johnson, CHTP, area director of information technology at JB Duke Hotel. “Extron validated our design, checked the network switch configurations, verified firmware and confirmed that the NAV devices were configured correctly. They commissioned the system remotely, which was a real time saver.”

The upgraded tech booth in each classroom now houses an 8×8 DXP HD 4K PLUS matrix switcher along with NAV E 101 HDMI encoders for video and audio distribution, NAV E 501 HDMI/Ethernet/USB encoders for KVM extension, and NAV SD 101 scaling decoders. The system is supported by a 48-port Ethernet switch and a NAVigator system manager.

Control is provided by an Extron control processor, while audio functions include AES67/Dante-enabled amplifiers, an audio DSP processor, Dante interface units and an HDMI audio embedder. Together, these components provide reliable distribution, switching and control for hybrid classes and conferences.
