Episode 755: SiliconCore Talks LISA-D and Status of LED CoB Technology In This Post-InfoComm Videocast

SiliconCore may be best known for being the first LED company to show CoB (Chip-on-Board) technology. And, according to Jim Wickenhiser, their Senior Vice President, Strategic Initiatives, they won’t ship it until they perfect it. How significant is this to the future of LED, watch this videocast to see how small the form-factor is for CoB. But, their development of CoB led to a more durable LISA LED – as you will see in this video demo. Watch this and then head over here to watch the three videos we shot from their booth at InfoComm 2018 – including one on LISA-D and one on their new Camellia 0.95mm LED LED Display.

Episode 753: At InfoComm, Epson Was 100% Laser, Laser and More Laser

Interestingly enough, one of the most popular products at InfoComm this year was in the back left corner of Epson’s booth — it’s called the LightScene and it’s basically a 3LCD laser projector built into an Accent Track Lighting system. But, certainly the most significant launch for them had to be the native 4K (3840 x 2160) resolution Pro L12000 — a 12K lumen large venue projector. Gary was joined by Epson’s Product Manager, Ramzi Shakra, to talk about their clear focus on laser including adding laser to both heir BrightLink Pro and their PowerLite series of projectors. We actually shot eight videos from the Epson booth at InfoComm and all of them are here.

Episode 752: My Post-InfoComm Wrap-Up Videocast with AVIXA’s CEO, Dave Labuskes

Put to bed every rumor you’ve hard about the InfoComm show leaving Vegas, leaving Orlando, stopping the rotation between the two cities and everything else you may have heard, in the rumor mill, as this post-InfoComm videocast with AVIXA‘s CEO, David Labuskes, answers all these questions and more. AVIXA’s first, ever InfoComm show set a Vegas attendance record, hosted more ProAV square-footage than any other North American-based show, ever, and likely saw a rise in end-user attendance. Each year, Gary talks with Dave at the end of the show to gauge his reaction to the event, what he noticed, the direction of the industry and where he sees trends like AV-over-IP heading. This is an easy videocast to watch (or podcast to listen to) as Dave and Gary have known each other for years and Dave is remarkably candid about it all. We hope you enjoy it!

Gary also asked Clint about when he thought AV-over-IP would be more than their traditional routing solutions, today. He’s brutally honest in his outlook — quicker than later. Listen and see when he thinks this will all happen.

Episode 750: NETGEAR Says In 24-Months More Than 50% of AV Systems Will be AV-over-IP

Over the past year, I’ve enjoyed developing a relationship with Laurent Masia, NETGEAR‘s Global Senior Product Line Manager for Switches. Why? Well, there’s no doubt that the future of our market is via the network. We’re already running a lot AV control, most of our audio and all of VTC’ing over the network. Next comes Video — and even up to 4K and 8K video. 1080p is easy via the network — but higher resolutions provide some interesting dilemmas and decision making — mostly, how much compression can our application allow. The SDVoE 10G standards is the least compression AV-over-IP system out there, so far. More is coming, however. And, 1G is all over the place now. So, we’re at the beginning of a — dare I say it — revolution?

Listen to this podcast with Laurent and hear NETGEAR’s predictions — based on data they’ve collected and sales data of their own, new M4300 Series and the newest of the family, the M4300-96X modular switcher.

Gary was joined on his podcast today with Sharp’s Product Marketing Manager, Gary Bailer, to talk all about InfoCom and what they debuted. Listen to this podcast with Gary and Gary and then go watch the eight videos shot inside the Sharp booth during the show so you see why people left saying WOW!

And, of course, you can find all of Sharp’s ProAV line here.

Episode 748: LG’s InfoComm Booth: Wow!

LG’s VP of Business Development, Dan Smith, joined me today on my daily podcast to talk about their InfoComm booth. Greeting attendees into the booth was a set of transparent OLEDs and giant transparent LEDs — using their new transparent LED film. But, the breadth of their product line was super-impressive and they set a record for leads, visitors and new product launches — all at InfoComm 2018. All the LG product videos we shot are here, and LG’s website is here.

Episode 732: Altia Systems Picks rAVe to Debut Intelligence Sensing Technology in 5K Collaboration Cameras

Gary just got a sneak-peek of a new feature launching from Altia Systems – makers of the Panacast camera system – that will debut at InfoComm next week (in booth N1668). Called Intelligence Sensing technology, a new software update from Panacast will allow users to detect who, or even what, is in a meeting. There’s no better way to understand how this works than watching this videocast between Gary and Panacast founder, Aurangzeb Khan. There are all sorts of creative applications for this technology for integrators to explore with their clients – just watch this and you’ll see light-bulbs of ideas turning on in your head!

Episode 77: Post InfoComm for Integrators

InfoComm 2018 is behind us and we’re back to work, trying to close out the last half of the year. This week, find out how integrators can use InfoComm to boost sales over the next few months.

For all you REGULAR listeners of rAVe Radio out there, hopefully you enjoyed another opinion-packed issue!

For those of you NEW to rAVe, you just read how we are – we are 100 percent opinionated. We not only report the news and new product stories of the ProAV and HomeAV industries, but we stuff the articles full of our opinions. That may include (but is not limited to) whether or not the product is even worth looking at, challenging the manufacturers on their specifications, calling a marketing-spec bluff and suggesting ways integrators market their products better. But, one thing is for sure, we are NOT a trade publication that gets paid for running editorial or product stories. Traditional trade publications get paid to run product stories – that’s why you see what you see in most of the pubs out there. We are different: we run what we want to run and NO ONE is going to pay us to write or say anything good (or bad).

To send me feedback, don’t reply to this newsletter. Instead, write directly to me at gary@ravepubs.com or for editorial ideas, Editor-in-Chief Sara Abrons at sara@ravepubs.com.

A little about me: I graduated from Journalism School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (where I am adjunct faculty). I’ve been in the AV industry since 1987 where I started with Extron and eventually moved to AMX. So, I guess I am an industry veteran (although I don’t think I am that old). I have been an opinionated columnist for a number of industry publications and in the late 1990s I started the widely read KNews eNewsletter (the first in the AV market) and also created the model for and was co-founder of AV Avenue, which is now known as InfoComm IQ. rAVe [Publications] has been around since 2003, when we launched our original newsletter, rAVe ProAV Edition.

Everything we publish is Opt-in – we spam NO ONE! rAVe ProAV Edition is our flagship ePublication with what we believe is a reach of virtually everyone in the ProAV market. rAVe HomeAV Edition, co-published with CEDIA and launched in June 2004, is, by far, the largest ePub in the HomeAV market. We added rAVe Rental [and Staging] in December 2007, rAVe ED [Education] in May 2008 and then rAVe DS [Digital Signage] in June 2009. We added rAVe GHGav [Green, Healthcare & Government AV] in August 2010 and rAVe HOW [House of Worship] in August 2012. rAVe Radio, our podcasts, were launched in 2012. You can subscribe to any of those publication or see ALL our archives by going to: https://www.ravepubs.com
