We're just back from CEDIA Expo 2019 in Denver, where we shot over 500 videos of products from the show floor. You can see all our coverage here, but these might be of particular interest to ProAV integrators:
  • LG shows an ultra short throw 4K laser projector, the HU85LA CineBeam
  • New 8K TVs, including the Sony MASTER Series and 88" LG OLED
  • Comcast demonstrated eye gaze control of a cable box, which could mean new controls options that improve accessibility in other applications
  • Google adds a touch control panel, the Nest Home Hub Max, which controls not just Google products, but also other companies' products
  • Lots of speakers and other audio components hidden in artwork and other beautiful pieces — in particular from Leon Speakers and Bang & Olufsen
There were also numerous commerical products shown on the floor, which are all here.

+ Salt Mines, Key Chains and Media: Three Things AV Should Know About HDCP [Christopher Jaynes]

If you are an AV integrator, consultant or simply have to deal with AV room systems — you’ve probably run into the problems that HDCP creates. When you plug your OSX laptop into a wall plate so you can look at your device on the room display and all you see if black — that could be HDCP. So what is it? How does it work? Well — there is no locked salt mine, instead HDCP, a protocol that operates over the cable, is the vault.

+ The End of the Beginning [Dr. Frederick Ampel]

It’s all going to be in the cloud — that’s what the researchers seem to be saying to the whole AV/IT world.
Certainly technologies like digital signage storage and retrieval and a lot of security archive are already on or migrating to cloud or some hybrid of the cloud based platforms. The reality is perhaps a bit different than that rose-colored viewpoint presented by the cloud-based purveyors.
