Are we on the verge of an 8K boom?

Remember a few years ago when everyone was rapidly upgrading to 4K? It was right after the 3D debacle — we had all just been lied to by the manufacturers of 3D stuff. It was terrible. Just horrible. But, along comes 4K and all was forgotten and forgiven. But will 8K piss everyone off? I mean, it’s only been a few years since everyone just upgraded from HD to 4K sol won’t our clients feel deceived? Well, Jonathan Brawn’s piece on 8K below may shed some light on it.

This is a product-packed issue, by the way. Savant’s new lighting control is out, Crestron’s partnership for Black Nova Keypads reign a whole new look to keypad control in the home and Marantz just launched the best universal music server I’ve ever seen — seriously, take a look.

Enjoy and don’t forget to connect with me on LinkedIn.

And, if you need a job, there are a PLETHORA of them listed in the AV Industry’s largest LinkedIn Group.

COLUMNS

+ The Reality of 8K [Jonathan Brawn, CTS, DSCE, DSDE, DSNE, DCME, ISF-C]

Does 8K really matter? What will make it better than 4K? Why would we use 8K? My personal answer… Why not? 8K delivers four times the resolution of 4K (yeah, you’ve heard that one before), but also consider WHY that matters. The concept here is not just resolution, but pixel density.

+ The Joys of Cable [Lee Distad]

There are more options for content than ever, before you even start adding in the streaming services. It’s a natural consequence of what happens when the cable companies started offering internet and the internet companies started offering cable. The end result of all that choice is that since your clients are getting their TV from somewhere, that means that AV pros have the joy of having to stay on top of how to control all these possible sources.
