Many of you reading this have your CTS, the gold standard for certifications in the pro AV industry, as well as other designations specific to the rental and staging market, or project management, for example. Today, Scott Tiner, a tech manager at Bates College in Maine, asks if certifications really matter, and why. Scott is an end user, so you may be particularly interested in his thoughts on certifications and if it’s worthwhile when he’s looking for partners.

We also have another view, from an analyst at Futuresource Consulting, on Biamp purchasing the parent company of Community Loudspeakers and Apart Audio. There have been numerous acquisitions this year for both manufacturers and integrators, but this is a significant one.

We’ll also be attending the Integrate show in Australia again this year. You can see all our coverage from last year here. You can also follow along on our social media accounts, as always. If you’ll be there, be sure to give us a shout!

+ Another View on Biamp Buying Community and Apart Speaker Brands [James Kirby]

This acquisition is likely to offer Biamp substantial opportunity across the install pro audio markets. However, the development of all the brands will likely show a more commercial audio focus. At the same time this means more competitive pressure in key growth verticals, and further increases the need for a large product portfolio when it comes to install projects. DSP, control and audio networking synergies will be positive for the group, and many brands will be impacted by the solid pairing of Biamp DSP with Audioprof’s loudspeakers. A specialist DSP and networking brand has just purchased two specialist loudspeaker brands, and no doubt this journey will continue to be watched closely by many of the largest pro audio companies.

+ Does Certification Matter? [Scott Tiner]

As a manager, I'm often faced with the question of what requirements we should put into a job description when we are ready to hire a person. Experience is always the easiest one to figure out. You think about how senior the position is and then you base years of experience or type of experiences on that. Education and industry certifications are different and always cause a lively discussion. Do people really need them? Do they matter?
