Latest headline: Joan Vandermate on the value of staying wired, Leonard Suskin on technology of the future, plus news from Extron, Zoom, Christie, Yamaha and more

Zoom launched Zoom Phone last week. The voice solution integrates into their current suite of desktop, mobile and web apps; focuses on interoperability; and incorporates the well-known cloud-based phone features like auto attendants and IVR (interactive voice response). Gary Kayye wrote a story on Zoom’s recent product release — check that out below.

Also below is a blog from Logitech’s Joan Vandermate on the prevalence of cables despite the “age of ubiquitous wireless connectivity” in which we live. She talks about four of the top reasons that this is the case. And, of course, she asks the question: “When can we truly cut the cord on cables in AV installs?”

Enjoy the issue! And if you are in a pollen-invested area of the world right, I hope you aren’t covered in the yellow powder like I am after walking just a block to get a coffee.

+ The World Has Gone Wireless, So Why Do We Still Have Cables? [Joan Vandermate]

We live in an age of ubiquitous wireless connectivity. Whether you are on the corporate Wi-Fi at the office, teleworking using your home Wi-Fi, logged on at the local coffee shop, or using the mobile cellular network, it’s pretty much a given that you won’t need a cable to get a reliable network connection. But in this era of wireless connectivity, why do AV installations still rely on so many cables?
