Hang and bang. When I first joined the industry, I thought that was a funny term. I guess I still do. A word to describe the easier jobs, the quick ones — get in, pull some wire, hang some stuff, connect it all up, boom, done. The simple meeting rooms or maybe an easy classroom. Over in resi, it was a home theater or whole house audio system that was basically out of the box. But as it turns out, simple systems weren’t really that great after all, at least not for us industry folk. Because eventually, they became so easy, they didn’t need the integrator at all. Today, Mark Coxon mourns the death of the “AV Generalist” — but says there’s still plenty of opportunity with a bit of specialization. Don’t miss it.
We’re also at CEDIA Expo this week, if you have interest in the residential market. Or actually, also “light commerical,” which seemed to be mentioned a lot in the releases we’ve been seeing the past week or two. There’s a whole lot of “residential” speakers, now also available for 70-volt.
