Whitinsville Christian School has upgraded its auditorium’s audio system with Eastern Acoustic Works’ (EAW) ADAPTive Series, enhancing sound quality for theatrical and musical performances. The school partnered with Revelation, a local audiovisual event production service and technology integrator, to install the AC6 Column Loudspeakers and Otto Subwoofers, creating an immersive audio experience for students and audiences.

Addressing Audio Challenges

Before the upgrade, the school’s auditorium faced significant sound issues, including excessive white noise and electronic malfunctions.

“The original system was not that old, but it had a lot of issues that needed addressing,” said Anthony D’Elia, president and chief steward at Revelation. “The school also did not want to install front fills below the stage because students performing in choirs would stand on the steps in front of the stage, blocking the audio from the speakers.”

To resolve these challenges, Revelation recommended the EAW ADAPTive Series, configuring the system with AC6 Column Loudspeakers and Otto Subwoofers. The speakers were flown in a left, right, and center arrangement above the stage, ensuring precise audio directionality. This setup allowed sound to reach the front rows without excessive reflection off the back wall, which lacked acoustic treatment.

Installation and Fine-Tuning

Before installation, a structural engineer assessed the auditorium’s rig points to ensure safety. Once installed, Revelation’s system engineer and head of audio conducted extensive tuning using measurement microphones, fine-tuning the system to achieve optimal sound clarity.

“The result was perfection,” D’Elia said. “The adaptability of the AC6 Loudspeakers has allowed for effective sound distribution, creating a more engaging experience for students performing live. Running the system in a cardioid pattern to reject low-end frequencies on stage has also been incredibly helpful.”

Positive Feedback and Long-Term Benefits

The new system has received widespread praise from the Whitinsville Christian School community.

“The frequency range, fidelity, and onboard processing were superior at this price point,” said Byron Flagg of Whitinsville Christian School. “The clean and minimalist design of the speakers makes them less visually intrusive for theater applications. The Otto Subwoofer and AC6 Column Arrays are perfectly suited for controlling energy distribution, especially in our auditorium, which has been acoustically tuned for live orchestra and choir performances.”

Flagg also highlighted the convenience of the onboard processing, which ensures consistent audio quality even when operated by students and non-technical staff.

“In a high school environment, most users are students or non-technical staff,” he said. “Having critical system parameters locked inside the speakers ensures the system remains properly tuned for as long as possible.”

A New Standard for Audio Excellence

The collaboration between Whitinsville Christian School and Revelation reflects a shared commitment to enhancing education and performance opportunities. With the EAW ADAPTive Series sound system, the school has set a new benchmark for audio quality, fostering creativity and elevating the overall experience for students, faculty, and audiences.
