Toshiba to Introduce Augmented Reality App for Clippers Season Opener at STAPLES Center

phpXqu1EZAMLOS ANGELES, Calif. (Oct. 28, 2015) – Before the Los Angeles Clippers and Dallas Mavericks tip-off to begin the 2015-2016 NBA season at STAPLES Center on Thursday, Toshiba America Business Solutions will unveil its augmented reality app, PictureMe within LA Interactive powered by Toshiba, which is located on the arena’s main concourse.

The company’s new mobile app – which is compatible with Apple® iOS and Android™ smartphones – creates true-to-life images of the team’s players with which fans can take a photo. Working in concert with Toshiba’s 65-inch vertical touch screen display at LA Interactive, the augmented reality app projects a digital image of the selected player within the user’s mobile device allowing for a memory-making photo opp.

STAPLES Center patrons will enjoy taking their photo with prominent Clippers including Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan and Chris Paul as well as Los Angeles Kings fan favorites such as Anže Kopitar, Team President and NHL Hall of Famer Luc Robitaille, club mascot Bailey and Ice Crew members.

Upon snapping a picture or two, fans may share the photos on Twitter and Facebook as well as upload the pictures – with assistance from Toshiba’s onsite brand ambassadors – on LA Interactive’s array of high-definition displays.  Fans may also auto-tweet directly to the Clippers and Kings Twitter handles.

“Our partnership with Toshiba is incredible and with their continued efforts to bring new and innovative technology into the arena for our fans, it is a goal we are collaboratively striving to achieve,” STAPLES Center President Lee Zeidman said.  “The PictureMe App will be another unique way for our fans to engage and connect with their favorite team and players and share their experience on social media.”

LA Interactive is a fan engagement zone where fans can access dynamic Clippers and Kings content including team photos, stats and video highlights.  It features a 6- by 13-foot LED video wall, 8- by 5-foot Toshiba Ultra HD video wall, three 65-inch Toshiba Ultra HD displays and two 46-inch Toshiba Virtuoso interactive touch displays.  LA Interactive also encompasses a 60-inch Toshiba “Touch & Get” interactive kiosk allowing for high-speed transfers of exclusive Clippers, Kings and STAPLES Center content.

“The force behind creating PictureMe was to develop something that would enhance the overall fan experience for passionate Clippers and Kings followers,” said Bill Melo, Toshiba America Business Solution’s chief marketing executive.  “PictureMe is unique and fun and gives the fan a takeaway they probably wouldn’t get at another arena.”
