The Daily Raff: ISE 2025 Day 1 Thoughts

Things I didn’t do today: Tour Crestron’s booth. Things I did do today: Have a quick yap session with my Crestie Besties!

Wow; it’s been a minute since I wrote one of these. Okay. Deep breath. Let’s go.

ISE 2025 is probably the biggest trade show I’ve ever seen in my life. There is so. much. happening. More manufacturers than I can possibly get to — in fact, I barely made it out of Hall 3 on Day One. So let’s break down my day, I’ll show you guys what I saw and we can talk about my thoughts.

I started my day with a really great tour at Samsung’s booth. I appreciated that they took media and analysts all around the booth and showed us every new piece of technology. My favorites? The 32-inch full-color e-paper display with enterprise-level management. I know; this isn’t the first full-color e-paper on the market. But it does seem to be one of the easiest on the market if you need something like this AND you prefer to change the content a little more frequently.

My other favorite was the HoloDisplay — a seemingly floating screen. At first, I did not see the vision. But! Think about the applications for something like a drive-thru where you would like to see the menu items a few cars back. This display can help push that content at an angle in which people a few cars back can see it. How cool is that? Don’t ask me how it works. I don’t know but I know it’s an optical illusion.

So now that you know a couple of the products that I like, let’s talk trends. I am finally seeing people put their money where their mouth is with sustainability. For years, I’ve seen manufacturers claim how important it is without actually doing anything. But finally, I hope that is all changing. From the efforts of SAVe to some really great European laws, it’s not something our industry can ignore anymore. Logitech built its booth from sustainable materials. Multiple booths save their carpet tiles and use them every time. Some manufacturers are noting that they no longer ship items in single-use plastic. Etc. Etc. Yes, it’s going to take a lot to save the planet, but I’m really excited to see how our industry is taking this seriously.

By the way, this show has already broken records. From a quick conversation with Dave Labuskes to Mike Blackman’s time on rAVe [TV] today, show officials have made it clear attendance is set to pretty much be back to pre-COVID levels. I’m thrilled. I believe so much in the power of trade shows and interpersonal relationships. There is nothing like making a new friend on the show floor. (So if you’re here, please say hi to me. It makes me so happy!)

Okay I need to go to bed and/or prep for my interviews tomorrow so this is all for today. Thanks for reading and a special thanks to Mike Blackman, Leila Hede Jensen and Jack Steinhauer for being fantastic guests on rAVe [TV] today (you can watch the episode above).
