The Attention Economy

I recently watch this video. It’s about the “Attention Economy” – it was a presentation given at Signal Summit Proctor and Gamble hosted this past March. The guy doing the presentation? Jonah Goodhart, the co-founder of MOAT… a small startup out of California. Aren’t all startups in California, though? Really?

Regardless. the information is awesome.

Jonah is talking about the “Attention Economy” and how it’s no longer about click-throughs, impressions, or “metrics” – it’s about how brands grab the ATTENTION of those who are engaging or consuming their content. It’s about being memorable and different in the digital ad world. Only about 1%… IF THAT, of people click on ads. Think about it, how often do YOU click on online ads? Probably not often. BUT, you notice them, right? You notice a good ad just like you notice a billboard, or tv commercial, or print ad. It’s all about consumer consumption. It’s all about how the brand is presented. And it’s all about relationships.

THAT’S what makes a good advertising campaign. That’s what we’ve been talking about for a while now. Remember this video we made? How we talked about things other than click-throughs and impressions? It’s all about grabbing the attention of the user and engaging with your audience and developing lasting relationships that build trust.

What do you think? Watch Jonah’s presentation. Watch our video. Tell us what you think in the comments below.
